How to make Scones : A Quick Bread Cake

350g Self-raising flour (Extra for dusting)
1 teaspoon Baking powder
A pinch Salt
85g Butter
45 g sugar
3/4 Cup of Milk
1 Egg (for egg wash)
Directions
- Pre-heat the oven to 220°C/200°C fan/gas 7.
- Sift Self-rising flour, baking powder and salt into a bowl.
- Cut Butter into small cubes and rub into the flour until it looks like breadcrumbs.
- Add sugar to milk. Make a well in the dry mix and add the milk.
- Combine to form a dough.
- Dust surface light with flour. Roll out to about 2cm thick.
- Cut out Scones with a 7cm cutter.
- Combine leftover dough and cut more Scones.
- Place in a dusted pastry tray and brush top with egg.
- Bake for 15 minutes.
- When ready, Transfer to a wire cooling rack.
- Tap the scones. If they’re baked, they will sound hollow.
- Can serve with jam or butter
